Notes of various literary elements and devices for further study of short stories and novels. Some of this is review other things may be new. Then, practice with the Three Little Pigs.
What is identity and how is it formed. A look as a poem and an essay dealing these questions and a personal examination of identity. Concepts will be further explored in the literature for the unit.

Read a biography of Poe and answer questions. Note the details of his life that lead to his subject and style of his writings.
Edgar Allan Poe's tale of isolation. Read for how Poe achieves his single effect and main theme.
Read this classic Poe poem about madness and grief. Study lit terms related to poetry.
Read "Mariam" by Truman Capote. Note similarities in theme between this story and Usher and Raven.
